Subaru Outback Service Schedule

6,000-Mile Interval

  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check operation of exterior lights
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid
  • Check and adjust tire pressures
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage
  • Inspect wiper/washer systems and fluid
  • Replace Genuine Subaru oil filter
  • Replace Genuine Subaru synthetic oil
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Service battery terminals

12,000-Mile Interval

The 12,000-mile interval is a more encompassing service check, which includes all of what’s listed in the 6,000-mile interval. During this time, the steering and suspension will be inspected, as well as your braking and clutch systems. It’s best to have the air filter in your Subaru vehicle’s HVAC system switched out. This is also when the oil change and tire rotation takes place.

Subaru recommends having these services done every year or 12,000 miles.

18,000-Mile Interval

  • Alignment check (required for Passport Program)
  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid
  • Check and adjust tire pressures
  • Check operation of exterior lights
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage
  • Inspect wiper/washer systems and fluid
  • Replace fuel filter (only at 72,000 and 144,000)
  • Replace Genuine Subaru cabin air filter
  • Replace Genuine Subaru oil filter
  • Replace Genuine Subaru synthetic oil
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Service battery terminals

24,000-Mile Interval

  • Check and adjust clutch hydraulic fluid (manuals only)
  • Check and adjust coolant level
  • Check and adjust tire pressures
  • Check and adjust power steering fluid
  • Check operation of exterior lights
  • Inspect belts and hoses
  • Inspect suspension and steering components
  • Inspect tires for uneven wear and damage
  • Inspect wiper/washer systems and fluid
  • Rotate and balance tires
  • Replace Genuine Subaru oil filter
  • Replace Genuine Subaru synthetic oil
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
  • Service battery terminals

30,000-Mile Interval

The 30,000-mile mark is when Wilton-area drivers can expect intensive maintenance checks to take place. Services include the brake fluid and air filter. There’s also an inspection of the cooling system, drive belt, and fuel system. If your Outback has a manual transmission, then the clutch and transmission fluid will get replaced.

This maintenance check will take place again in 30 months or after you have driven another 30,000 miles.

  • Replace spark plugs (only at 60,000 and 120,000)
  • Replace oil drain plug gasket
